MAGNIFICENT MANDURAH MASTERS 2
The lust for placing hands on the erotic winners trophy drew extra numbers to the second running of the Mandurah Masters. Macca and Steve got to wallow in the luxury of our 7-star Club Santavea accommodation and, like all of us, were mightily impressed. That such a clubhouse should be purpose built is quite an achievement.
The more challenging Meadow Springs produced 4 sub-centurions. Steve was one of them after some power hitting and was immediately stripped of his MM L-plates. The golf-poor Allardice boys were both in the running and that serial podium pest, Lindsay, was also in the mix. But the day (just) belonged to Squancey who made light work of the par 3's (2 birdies) and came home with the least number of putts to nudge out Iron Man Steve, also with 2 birdies and just 1 putt behind Squancey. Last years winner, Jacko, knocked himself out of contention on just one hole – a 14 on the 16th par 3 (OUCH!)
But Mandurah Country Club had its moments and Jacko was making the most of them while Lindsay had less success and it ended up a 13 stroke turn-around with Jacko (185) easing to the title by but 3 strokes. After the Mandurah Masters Trophy was officially unveiled, he wasn't sure he'd done the right thing by winning it!
The Little Master, despite being in a catatonic jet-lagged state, took the bronze (201), that metronomic swing producing some cracking shots. It was just that the small matter of a 13 on one hole at Meadow Springs (bugger that sand!) did put a dent in things.
While there were winners on the golf course, perhaps the big winner was getting together again with Les, Sam and Lindsay and the comaraderie, good humour and memorable moments shared during the first of hopefully many Mandurah Masters.
